which is the difference between a Folk guitar and a dreadnought guitar?

which is the difference between a Folk guitar and a dreadnought guitar? I’m about to buy a guitar, I’ve always wanted a dreadnought guitar but I can not find one. I got a yamaha F310 guitar, which looks very like a dreadnought but I just don’t know what to do, I really need to know the difference. By the way, are dreadnoughts and texans guitars the same ones?

Chosen Answer:

dreadnought is the size plus most have the cutaway

I think dreads are just bigger witha deeper tone with possibly more sustain.

You can find them everywhere. try the website for musician’s friend.

Your best bet is to go to a music store and sit down and play a bunch of different guitars. See which one feels the best and see if you can afford it. Just ask one of the sales reps to help you. They should be able to point you in the right direction.
