What is the useful purpose of scales in playing guitar music?

Please explain how to use them when playing the guitar.

Chosen Answer:

there are a lot of uses for scales in guitar, especially in the pentatonic scale. Scales help you while you are playing a solo or to come up with riffs for a song. Artists like: jimmy page (led zeppelin), slash (G’s & R’s) and angus young(ACDC) are famous because of their riffs and all of these are based in scales.

Scales are the series of notes that run from A all the way through G that sound nice together in harmonic resonance. If you started hittng every single key on a piano in sequence without skipping a few notes, it just sounds like a cat walking across a piano…

If you play “scales” you are playing the alphabetical sequence of notes that “skip” a few notes along the way to make it sound “lovely” and not like a cat walking across a piano.

Rippin’ Lead Guitar riffs are basically (with some exceptions) just rapid “scale” sequences that have been learned “slow” at first, but with repetitious practice they can be played “rippin’ fast” and so sound rippin…

Latino mandolin fast picking that is very popular in Latino Culture is simply “scale” riffs the same as what most rock lead guitarists play on their electric guitars, it just sounds more intense because of the amps which provide distortion effects that can “add” phantom riff strokes to the audience due to the “delay” effects of amp distortion…

Those scales are probably needed to ‘ blend ‘ in with the song, or give it more ‘ feeling ‘ .
    Guitars sound nice in nature.
you can buy guidebooks, and most probably a lot of them will teach you how to play them.

for mine, it only costs $5.50.
    ( Singapore dollars ).
and it shows all the scales clearly and even teaches you how to play songs!
