What is the appropriate acoustic guitar size for a 13 year old girl?

I really want an acoustic guitar and I was wondering what would be the right size. I’m only 5’1 so would a 40 inch guitar work or would it have to be smaller/bigger? Please help, thanks!

Chosen Answer:

You are big enough for a full size guitar. Full size guitars have a scale length of 24 1/2″ to 25 1/2″ where scale length is defined as the distance from nut to saddle, that is, the length of the part of the string that vibrates. Overall length is meaningless.

If you are looking at those inexpensive (under 0) guitars on eBay, forget it. They’re complete pieces of crap. Buy a guitar from a guitar store and nowhere else.

Good luck.
