Orleans co-founder Larry Hoppen, the soaring voice of 70s hits “Still The One”, “Dance With Me,” “Love Takes Time” and “Let There Be Music” will be making a rare solo appearance in Saratoga Springs at Isabel’s Bistro at The Cupcake Lab, Friday, November 19 at 8 p.m.
Presented by Saratoga Strings Guitar & Bass Lesson Center LLC (78 Church St., Saratoga Springs, http://www.saratogastrings.com), Hoppen says that he’ll be bringing along a “Surprise Special Guest” to join him on stage, saying only, “It will be a professional and fun addition to the show.” The event will be followed by a Musician’s Clinic hosted by the award-winning artist.
Saratoga Strings’ director and local musician George Fletcher said he wanted to offer other local musicians and songwriters the opportunity to speak with artists who have written and recorded hit songs.
“This is just the first of a series of events that brings highly successful musical artists to fans and musicians in an intimate setting,” he said. “Isabel’s is simply a fantastic venue and Larry fits the bill to a tee. He’s a very engaging guy whose songs have made the Top 40 and Top 10 charts – and he sounds as good as ever!”
Fletcher says the hit songwriter is also promoting a new book “A Career in Music: How to Stand a Chance.” “He’s the perfect choice to kick this off,” he said. “It will be a real treat to see and hear him at work.”
Along with his brothers Lane and Lance, former Elton John drummer Charlie Morgan and guitarist Dennis “Fly” Amero, Hoppen continues to tour and record with Orleans (http://www.orleansonline.com). He is also a “School of Rock” participant in his now-home state of Florida, frequently performing with his labor-of-love project “Rock and Pop Masters.”
Local acoustic favorites The Tequila Mockingbirds (http://www.thetequilamockingbirds.com) will open the show.
Show sponsors include Adirondack Orthopedic and Professional Sports Consulting, PLLC; Fairbanks Fletcher Law, PLLC (http://www.fletcherlawfirmllc.com); Saratoga Eagle Distributors (http://www.saratogaeagle.com); and John McPherson, creator of the “Close to Home” (http://www.closetohome.com) comic strip.
Tickets are .00 for dinner and show (with or without clinic), .00 for show (with or without clinic), .00 clinic only.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Saratoga Springs branch of The Salvation Army.
